Know Thy Enemy: Chaos-Seeking Hacker

October 6, 2017 By The Editor

Everyone has to start somewhere, including hackers. Script Kiddies may lack the skills to perform sophisticated attacks, but they are still capable of causing damage to their targets. In most cases, they aren’t seeking money or fame but instead, Script Kiddies launch attacks just for the “lulz.”

Using freely available Denial of Service (DoS) tools, Script Kiddies attempt to take down individuals and organizations for fun, revenge, or to cause chaos. These types of hackers love to target online video game networks, and can be successful in complete disruption when their attacks are coordinated together with other individuals. Collectives such as Lizard Squad and PoodleCorp have succeeded in bringing down Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and World of Warcraft with DDoS attacks with no end goal other than inconveniencing other gamers.
