Hacked Industrial Robots – Daily Security Byte

August 23, 2017 By Corey Nachreiner

We’ve imagined many nightmare scenarios where sentient robots turn on humanity in science fiction novels and movies. Well, the latest security research might bring us one step closer to Skynet. Researchers from IOActive have found a number of security vulnerabilities in three different robots; two hobby or toy robots and one industrial collaboration robot. These hacks allow remote attackers to gain full control of these robots and use then as spying devices, or even to do physical harm to humans. The flaws in the industrial robot should concern you the most, as they could cause serious human injury. The good news is, this still requires a human attacker. Malicious AI hasn’t taken over the world yet. Watch below for the details.
