February 14, 2017 By The Editor

hearts

Although chocolate, hearts and time with that special someone may be the central focus for most people on Valentine’s Day, this holiday represents a mischievous opportunity for hackers. Cybercriminals have historically taken advantage of unsuspecting victims with attacks related to love or concentrated on V-Day itself.

In a recent CSO Online article, Marc Laliberte, information security threat analyst at WatchGuard reminisces on some of the most heartbreaking hacks over the years. Marc breaks down several love-related hacks including:

  • The “ILOVEYOU” worm
  • A Valentine’s Day E-Card worm
  • The Heartbleed bug

Don’t be fooled by hackers playing cyber-cupid this year. Stay safe online this Valentine’s Day by keeping an eye out for cyberattacks camouflaged by sweet e-cards, chocolate and would-be love letters.

Learn more about these heartbreaking hacks at CSO Online, Network World, CIO or IT World. For a complete analysis of a recent Valentine’s Day phishing scheme, check out Marc’s latest post here.
