Protecting Healthcare From Global Threats

This week, over 40 international organizations, led by the Red Cross, called for the end to cyberattacks on healthcare. While working to combat Covid-19 many healthcare providers have struggled with Ransomware and other cyber-attacks. These attacks prevent hospitals and care facilities from operating at 100% and likely cause harm if not death of some patients.

“Above all, governments should take action and stop cyber-attacks on hospitals and medical facilities.” The open latter concludes.

The perpetrators of these attacks on healthcare providers are some of the scummiest people in the world. Because of this, many governments have already created strong laws against these attacks, but I believe some countries lack the will to fight these criminals.

Cyber criminals will run out of whatever country allows them to. For example, India have laws against scamming but according to a cyber expert with the alias Jim Browning, 95% of all tech scams come from India. Since the scams target other countries outside of India, local governments and police don’t have any motivation to take these scam centers down.

Many countries crack down on cyber-criminal organizations who attack healthcare and these criminals have left to other countries that allow their criminal organization. Countries that allow cybercrime will continue to allow it until enough economic and political pressure changes their tolerance of these crimes.

Until governments stop allowing cybercrime to occur in their own country, we need to keep updated on the latest threats, so we know how to block attacks targeting healthcare. We provide data in our own quarterly report as well as other reports to help users and organizations to protect their networks. If you have a Firebox and would like to participate you can allow the Firebox to send anonymous data to us. We appreciate everyone who sends us this information. We will continue to provide these reports on the current threats to those responsible for protecting healthcare from cyberthreats and anyone else who wishes to know the correct threats.
