2018 Security Predictions – SDRs Become the New Wi-Fi Pineapples

Last time we checked on these cyber criminals and their planning session, they were outlining an attack on cryptocurrency.  Now they’ve shifted gears and are looking at the possibility of capturing some low-hanging fruit using new wireless communication tools. For several years, the Wi-Fi Pineapple has made hacking simple for amateurs around the world. In 2018 the hackers expect the commoditization of Wi-Fi attack tools to shift toward software-defined radios (SDRs), which will give them the ability to easily access wireless protocols like Zigbee, Sigfox, Bluetooth and more.

They can’t wait to use easily accessible SDRs to steal network credentials at the local mall, or hit up the parking lot to spoof GPS signal and steal the car of their dreams.  All they need to do is watch some how-to videos from the more than 3 million hacking tutorials available on YouTube.
