How to Eliminate These 5 Critical Wi-Fi Mistakes

wi-fi in coffee shopIf you own a business, you probably know that delivering dependable Wi-Fi is an essential service for customers, especially considering most people carry at least one Wi-Fi enabled device at all times. But, if security parameters are not set and networks are not properly monitored, you could be exposing your business and your customers to a variety of security vulnerabilities.

In a recent article in Innovative Retail Technologies magazine, Ryan Orsi, Director of Product Management at WatchGuard Technologies discusses five mistakes businesses could be making when offering Wi-Fi to customers. These includes 1) no splash page or captive portal, 2) exposing customers to fraudsters and hackers, 3) losing sales to e-commerce giants, 4) letting Wi-Fi analytics gather dust, and 5) not prioritizing internet safety for families and children.

“Wi-Fi can be a game-changer for your business … for better or worse. If left unprotected, a guest Wi-Fi network at your business can unintentionally expose your customers’ personal information to hackers. Conversely, a secure and fully leveraged Wi-Fi network can provide a safe and efficient online experience for your customers, that also helps you create a positive online relationship with them, increase customer satisfaction and sales,” writes Orsi.
