Key Considerations for Wi-Fi Security? IoT, Security Work-arounds, and C-Level Targets

Any business with a wireless network needs to take Wi-Fi security seriously. According to Cisco, half of all IP traffic will be Wi-Fi by 2021, and as Wi-Fi traffic grows, so does the potential for Wi-Fi-enabled cyberattacks. RCR Wireless recently published an article explaining three important elements of Wi-Fi security including comments from WatchGuard’s very own Ryan Orsi. The article urges business owners to consider IoT device security, watch for employees building insecure work-arounds, and understand that C-level executives are more likely to be targeted by hackers.

Here’s an excerpt from the article, featuring Ryan’s perspective on the serious security risks associated with IoT devices: “Without a doubt, the number one way that IoT devices are connecting to the internet is Wi-Fi,” said Ryan Orsi, director of strategic alliances at Wi-Fi security company WatchGuard Technologies.  He said that customers are coming to the company asking how they can prevent devices such as security cameras, DVRs and other connected devices from being the next zombie recruits in a Mirai-botnet-like attack.

At WatchGuard, we live and breathe network security, so it’s gratifying to see other industries realizing the importance of the issue.
