Are SMBs Scared of Digital Transformation?

According to a new survey from IDC, the digital business transformation process at small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) is slowing down. As a matter of fact, only 35 percent of companies surveyed said they were well on their way to adopting digital business transformation applications and technologies.

Does this mean smaller organizations are scared of technology, or just struggling to understand and deploy it? This same survey from 2015 showed enthusiasm for hyper-connectivity, cloud computing, hosted software/services, and more. So, what’s changed?

In many cases, it has to do with the perceived complexity and longevity of the transformation process. According to a recent TechTarget article talking about the IDC survey:

“Digital business transformation technologies are also often perceived as being more complex than they are, leading to slower adoption. This perception is, to some extent, based on an outdated and inaccurate knowledge of the modern tools available to SMBs.”

The survey also shares information about the most widely adopted applications, the needs driving technology adoption, deployment preferences and more. Dive into the entire digital business transformation process by reading the complete IDC report here, or the full article at TechTarget.
