Microsoft Black Tuesday: Updates for RDP and Windows Media Components

Microsoft has posted their March Patch Day bulletins, which fix four vulnerabilities in Windows and Microsoft Groove.

The most critical bulletin fixes two flaws in Windows’ media handling components (DirectShow and the Windows Media player). You should install this update first.

Microsoft also corrects an Important flaw in the Windows Remote Desktop Client, which I’d also recommend you patch as soon as you can.

Finally, Microsoft’s third bulletin fixes a vulnerability in Microsoft Groove Server. I’m guessing few of my readers use Groove Server, so this flaw probably poses little risk to most networks. That said, patch it if you use it.

We’ll post more detailed alerts about these flaws, and how to fix them, shortly. Corey Nachreiner, CISSP
