Pwned Internet Print Jobs – Daily Security Byte

A few videos ago, I talked about a group of researchers that had found a bunch of security vulnerabilities in a wide array of common network printers. Apparently, they aren’t the only ones looking at printer hacks.

Last week, 160 thousand Internet-connect printers around the world got an unexpected print job warning users their printer was “pwned.” The good news is the hacker behind this messages seems to intend it as a prank and warning. He or she does not seem to be exploiting these insecure printers in any malicious way. However, it should be a wakeup call to anyone that exposes their printer online.
