v11.6.1 Available for Any XTM Appliance
WatchGuard is excited to announce four new XTM 5 Series network security appliances and the release of Fireware XTM and WatchGuard System Manager (WSM) v11.6.1.
On Monday, we announced the release of our new line of XTM 5 Series network security appliances. These next-generation UTMs sport the fastest throughput in their price class without sacrificing security efficacy, manageability, and ease of use. The four new models include the XTM 515, XTM 525, XTM 535, and the top-performance XTM 545. With these new models, you will have performance improvements over previous 5 Series models of up to:
- 40% for packet filtering
- 190% for gateway antivirus (GAV)
- 220% for intrusion prevention (IPS)
- 150% for overall UTM
If you manage a network with 50 to 500 users, and are looking to expand or trade up your existing appliance, the new 5 Series models make an ideal solution. You can find more details about this new hardware in our press release and updated product pages.
We are also pleased to announce the general release of Fireware XTM v11.6.1 and WatchGuard System Manager v11.6.1 for any WatchGuard XTM device, including 2 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 8 Series, XTM 1050 and 2050 devices, and any edition of XTMv.
Though v11.6.1 primarily introduces support for the new high-performance XTM 5 Series models, it also includes several key product enhancements, bug fixes, and customer requested improvements. It also updates localized user interfaces and documentation.
Some key v11.6.1 enhancements include:
- XTM devices in bridge mode can now pass VLAN traffic between 802.1Q switches or bridges
- We’ve added FireCluster support for XTM 25, 26, and 33 wired appliances
In addition to the enhancements listed above, 11.6.1 also includes several bug fixes and improves the product based on customer feedback. If you manage any XTM appliance, we recommend you download and install 11.6.1 to enjoy its new features and increased stability.

Does This Release Pertain to Me?
Fireware XTM v11.6.1 is an enhancement release primarily designed to introduce support for our new XTM 5 Series hardware models. However, it also contains some key feature enhancements and several bug fixes, which benefit all XTM appliance models. If you have any XTM device and wish to take advantage of the enhancements listed above, or the fixes mentioned in the Release Notes, you should upgrade to version 11.6.1. Please read the Release Notes before you upgrade, to understand what’s involved.
How Do I Get the Release?
XTM appliances owners who have a current LiveSecurity Service subscription can obtain this update without additional charge by downloading the applicable packages from the Articles & Support section of WatchGuard’s Support Center. To make it easier to find the relevant software, be sure to uncheck the “Article” and “Known Issue” search options, and press the Go button. Fireware XTM 11.6.1 is an XTM Series-only release, and does not work on e-Series appliances. If you need support, please enter a support incident online or call our support staff directly.
