Have you ever wanted to read this blog on the go, with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod?
OK, OK… You can already do that with iOS’s built in Safari browser, but that’s not very cool, is it? What would be cool, you ask? WatchGuard now has an iOS app that can deliver WatchGuard Security Center content, and much more, directly to your Apple mobile. The app is called WatchGuard REDnews, and you can download it today from the App Store in iTunes or on your iOS device.
REDnews consolidates many WatchGuard news feeds, such our Security Center and press releases feed, into one, easy to use application. It even includes a video section, where you can find many of the security videos we’ve released over the years. The application was developed by some of WatchGuard’s German sales team, so there are a few categories that cater primarily to our friends in Deutschland. However, the “Security” feed will be useful to anyone that wants to keep up with our latest security stories.
If you have and iOS devices and follow this blog, I highly recommend you go and grab WatchGuard REDnews. . — Corey Nachreiner, CISSP (@SecAdept)
Ed Podowski says
That is pretty COOL! What would also be very cool is if there was an APP for our service technicians’ DROIDs. Due to all the reliability and availability issues on the AT&T Wireless Network, we did not want to deal with all the drop calls any longer, so several years ago we dropped AT&T and went to Verizon. As you know, until recently the iPhone was only available on AT&T which we will never use again. This is how we started to use the Motorola DROID. They are very, very good phones and Verizon Wireless is the best. Soooo…can we have an APP for us!
Corey Nachreiner says
Good points, and we may have an app for you too. I just don’t know when. I was speaking to the sales engineer who had this iOS app made this week, and he claimed an android port should be relatively easy. He didn’t share any specific plans for when, but he made it sound like it was something they were already working on. I’ll let you know when I learn more.
Art Walker says
Nice. Will we see an iPad version in the future?
Gary Alu says
Actually what we REALLY need is an app that will also run on the Android 🙂
Barry Kennedy says
How about a Blackberry version?
Scott says
So what about the droid app!!? 🙂
Britton says
Most people who would be managing WatchGuard appliances are highly technical people. I would bet that more of them are using Android devices now than iOS. Hopefully you guys get the app out for Android soon too.
Stephen White says
Why iOS first? Most techs don’t use iPhones because of the closed uncustomisable nature of the platform! Android App ASAP please 🙂
Cory Seaman says
Now how about that mobile VPN client for Android?
Jonathan says
As if you need to hear this again, but just stressing how important is to your customers, an Android App would be wonderful.
Corey Nachreiner says
Heh. Note taken. I see lots of Android fans out there, so we will certainly look at making something for that platform too.
By the way, do know we are very much planning on supporting VPN on iOS and Android, as well as many other new platforms. I don’t want to go into much detail until we are closer to releasing something, but do know WatchGuard is very aware of the need for secure access from these popular platforms.
Dominic Haussmann says
Hi all,
we have a Droid App in Beta. When somebody wants to test it – send me a mail.
Don Goodwin says
I would be interested in helping with the android VPN.
Winter Colby says
Hey, I’d really like the beta droid app, but only if it provides VPN access.
Kimano says
we would be interested in testing your beta Droid App
Tyson says
I’d be interested in beta testing the droid app.
Nathan Rollins says
I would like to test the app I have it on a ipod touch but use a droid Phone and would like not to carry both.
Eric Bradette says
Would like to test the beta app. Thanks!
Corey Nachreiner says
I think there is some confusion going on in this comment section… just to clear up.. I believe Dominic Haussmann (one of WatchGuard’s Europe-based Sales Enginners), may have a Beta Android app for REDnews… this is the app that will show you the WatchGuard Security Center Feed, as well as some other resourses.
We DO NOT yet have a beta to offer for an Android VPN app. We are working on getting Android VPN support to our XTM appliances, and when a Beta for that support is available, we will announce it in our normal channels. But currently, the only Android beta app that we may have is for REDnews. In the post above, Dominic mentioned you can send him an email to try it… In the meantime, since there is a lot of response to this, I’ll contact him, and see what I can learn about the Android REDnews beta.
Davis Steffens says
Hi Dominic, where can I get the Watchguard Android App? Still in Beta? Whatever you have is great, thanks.
Rob Roy says
I would be very interested in testing the app as well
Lee says
I need to test also. Please send me one. THANKS! 😀
steven says
Would like to test the beta app. Thanks!
Nathan Rollins says
Sounds like a lot of ppl want to test the app but I still hav not seen the BETA.
Corey Nachreiner says
Hopefully, everyone saw my comment above. However, if you didn’t, here’s a summary and update.
I feel like there is a bit of confusion over what “beta” android app we have. This posting is about REDnews, an app for iOS that displays updates from various WatchGuard RSS feeds and resources. When Dominic talked about a Beta App, we was referring to this REDnews app. If you are interested in the REDnews app, it is already available on the Android market (since this is an old post). You can get the Android version of REDnews here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.appmakr.app147164&hl=en
In the comments of this post, I also mentioned that WatchGuard is working on Android VPN support. I believe some people that followed these comments confused the REDnews beta with a VPN beta. There is no Android VPN beta app yet. It is true that WatchGuard is working on Android VPN support. However, there is no beta for this VPN support yet. It is currently scheduled for sometime in 2012.
Marc Fathauer says
I would also be very interested in Android app. It is only a matter of time before people start replacing Windows notebooks with Android tablets like the upcoming Asus Transformer Prime. Offering this option will soon become a key deciding point for IT management when it comes to deciding on a VPN solution.
Dayhawk Kim says
An Android SSL VPN client like SonicWall’s NetExtender would be great to have!
Thanks, Corey.
Phil says
It has been a year know with talks about an Android application and honestly I find it very irresponsible to your customers to not have this out already! I’m going to change to Cisco September!

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m planning
to start my own blog soon but I’m having a hard time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.
